Attention all Alton HOG Members
Registration forms for the 2010 Maintenance Ride will soon be available at Ted's in the service department.
Don't forget, starting in March, register one month, ride 500 miles until the next month, register that month to verify mileage, and you could win a free oil change or a free tire (at the end of the riding season).
The Maintenance Ride rewards all members who register their bikes and then ride 500 miles the following month with a chance for a free oil change courtesy of Ted's. Register your bike's mileage two consecutive months either at the meeting with the proper officer or register at the Service Department at Ted's. Mileage will be tallied and if you qualify, your name will go in a hat for that month's drawing.
Contact Dan Parks, Assistant Director, with questions.
Alton HOG Continues With Adopt A Highway - Our Third Year!
| The Illinois Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) program brings citizen volunteers into partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to pick up trash and keep our roadsides clean. The program also educates and encourages people to stop littering. Through the cleanup efforts of more than 10,000 Adopt-A-Highway volunteers throughout Illinois, visitors and tourists have a better first impression of our state. |
 |
Each volunteer group is assigned a two-mile section of highway. Volunteer groups agree to remove litter from their section of highway at least four times each year for a two-year period.
In return for this partnership, IDOT provides roadside signs identifying our group as an Illinois Adopt-A-Highway program participant, provides safety vests and trash bags to volunteers, and removes the filled bags from the roadside following apickup day.
Alton Hog is proud to have adopted a section of the Great River Road (IL 100), from Piasa Creek, 2 miles north to right before Elsah.
Saturday Clean-up Dates for 2010:
- April 24
June 26 (rescheduled - new date TBA)
- August 28
- October 30
Below is the link to the Illinois Department of Transportation website
page regarding the Adopt-A-Highway guidelines. The link for the video
that volunteers must watch is located at the bottom in bold. All volunteers need to click the link, read the rules and guidelines, and watch the video prior to the pickup date.

Sometimes we can't get away for a full weeks vacation so here is a weekend special for you:
Eureka Springs in the fall is a beautiful time of the year for 2 wheeled travel. We are leaving 8 am on Friday Sept 10, headed to Eureka springs via back roads, 2 lane highways. Not the super slab. should arrive Friday afternoon for two & 1/2 wonderful days (Fri, Sat, & Sun) of sight seeing and visiting then heading back via 2 lane highways. There are plenty of things to see and do along the way. Alton HOG did a similar trip awhile back and those that went had a terrific time. Now is the time to see what you missed the first time or to see it for the first time. Bring your camera and positive attitude.
This year we will be staying at the Eureka INN (Best Western) 1-800-221 3344 Ask for Candy. We have 10 rooms with two queen beds ea. You decide whom you want to share with. Rooms are reserved under Alton HOG at the special Harley rate. Includes custom ordered breakfast in the attached restaurant. 2 pools (inside/outside). Plenty of restaurants and night spots within walking distance. Do rides all day then Leave your bike at the INN, party and dine in town and crawl back if you like. Your trusty iron horse will be safe at the hotel. More information at a later date. Rooms are on first come first served basis. More rooms "may" be available as we get closer to Ride date. |

Scenes from the first Alton HOG Chapter meeting of 2010, held January 28th. Highlight of the meeting was the awarding of volunteer jackets. Members who assist at 5 events, rides or functions a year are recognized with a beautiful chapter jacket, a different one each year, with the final one being leather! Jackets are provided by the chapter's sponsor, Ted's Motorcycle World of Alton Illinois.
